Gorgeous painting and very well done indeed. Barn owls are such beautiful birds, but have such enormously complicated and delicate markings - it's hard getting those right without cramping a piece with details. I think you managed to get them down really well
Tell me about it!!! I think I painted over and redid the markings at least twice. They kept coming out too harsh, and I still think they could have been toned down further, now that I look at this again. It was difficult with the piece being relatively small, too. I'm glad you think I managed well though! Thank you very much
Oh yeah, small pieces make things like that much more difficult. Hmm, I don't think they should have been toned down further still per se, actually. There are enough Barn owls which are rather dark and have those gorgeous clear markings as you've painted them
Haha a barn owl fan! I did paint a small barny in watercolour before now, and I did a graphite drawing too - plus many sketches. I seem to have a thing about barn owls. And I never used to be particularly fond of them - I thought they had weird looking faces.
Fist thing that comes to mind is how soft this looks. It gives an early morning impression, like the owl just realized the sun's coming and, "Oops! Time for bed!" I really like the way owls look, I think this one is my new favorite bird painting by you. Owls, and tiny birds I like. For example: [link] [link] [link]
Ah yeah it could have been early morning too! I didn't really have a specific time of day in mind. I'm glad you like it Thank you ! And yes, tiny birds rock! How about tiny owls?? I saw one earlier this week only about 15-20cms tall...
