apparently there is a film with the same name, about cocaine smuggling... I'm not making any references to drugs here ok? It's getting harder and harder to come up with names lol!

My Christmas card image for this year. I was able to work on it over the past few days. (Illness has its benefits, namely time off work! The downside is my ribcage feels like it has been punched repeatedly by a bear, thanks to three days straight of coughing fits.)

Anyway. I said I wouldn't really do digital anymore, but it doesn't take as long to do as a trad piece... and I am short on time. (I haven't ordered my cards yet.) Plus, I always forget how much fun it is. :) I enjoyed this a lot. It made me forget I felt like crap. YAY!

The horse is referenced from a photo by Robin Benefiel aka ~hoodsey, with special permission. The photo's not on dA, but I'll see if I can get a link.
The background was inspired by several Christiane Slawik photos on a winter theme, but not copied from any of them. I sort of hashed it together and gave it in artsy feel ;) (my excuse for not being able to paint convincing backgrounds...)

Corel Painter and Photoshop.

*snorts* That disclaimer about the cocaine film kinda got me XD This is a gorgeous painting though, with the most lovely wintery feel to it. What beautiful colour this horse has - was it like that in the reference too or was it your own choice? Must say I have never seen a horse with such an interesting mix of bluish grey and copper grey. Very lovely :)

Haha, well gotta write disclaimers for everything these days :XD: Thank you very much indeed. The horse was very shiny and almost silvery in the reference!! I think it's a combination of the horse's actual coat colour and the photography/editing style of Robin Benefiel, who took the photo. Her account here is ~hoodsey, here's another photo she took of the same horse, Sandokan:… Looking back at this drawing now, the blue-grey and copper-grey areas seem to be quite separate - not very well blended. I guess that's lazy artsmanship on my part  or perhaps I did not notice at the time!

Wow, that truly is an amazing coat, like quicksilver or something :wow: Haha, ah well, always something to learn for the next time round! ;D

Yeah it's super shiny! And I agree, an art piece should always teach you something by the time you finish it, no matter how small! :)
