if seeing one magpie is "one for sorrow", then seeing one white magpie must either be good... or very bad.

I like this one way better than the digital one. Watercolour overlaid with carbon pencil on watercolour paper. (I'm losing my watercolour fear gradually!) It's more a sketch/experiment than a finished artwork though, hence the haphazardly placed darks and lights in the bg - I was messing around.

I painted this horizontally originally (with the paper "landscape"), but he looked much better vertical. Consequently it bears quite a resemblance to Christophe Drochon's Margot (which was unintentional, although I love his work and it does influence me quite a lot... as watchers of my blog would know!)

I'd like to mention *pallanoph as an influence here, too... her piece Thought and Memory especially stuck through my mind as I did this!
