Double-Collared Sunbird by AmandaDrage Double-Collared Sunbird by AmandaDrage
Need a nice title for this one, but everything I think of sounds rubbish!

This is a greater double collared sunbird from South Africa. The reference photo was used with permission thanks to Lee Young aka ~YOB :)
Oils on 16x12" boxcanvas.

An experiment with style, I missed the mark slightly IMO but it still turned out nice, if not exactly what I had in mind!

Wow, wonderful depiction of this finely feathered jewel  I've seen sunbirds in Kenya and they are such incredible little birds, like the Old World's answer to the Hummingbirds. You captured that beautifully iridescent head here perfectly

As for titles, 'Equilibrium' maybe? A bit cliché, I know, but it does seem Sunbirds have this uncanny ability to hang from and balance on even the thinnest and most wobbly of branches and flowers...

Thank you! Yes it seems like all my favourite colours are in this painting... it wasn't intentional! I'm still wondering if I should have stuck to a more natural green...

You're welcome! :la: Who knows, maybe the painting was meant to turn out this way. ;)

:) Thank you!! I was worried it was TOO colourful... It looks better now that I put the glaze over it. :D
