8x10" portrait of my parents' late dog. Derwent Drawing soft coloured pencils and pastel on velour paper. Reference photo was my own.

I'm giving this to my mum on Sunday as a gift. I think there might be a tear or two. ;) He was her baby.

I'm open for 8x10" pet portrait commissions. Four slots left at the reduced rate of 65 not including shipping. Drop me a note if you'd like one!

Sorry for the inactivity, I have a valid reason though... I've been ploughing through my artistic to-do list. The Commissions Fairy has decided to smile on me this year, only modestly but it is a smile nonetheless... so I'm busy-busy right now!

Wow, this is amazing! I admire the fur structure. How did you manage to make it so realistic and detailed with colored pencils? Lately, I was thinking about buying some colored pencils, too, and this is a great motivation. Now I wonder, though, whether I should be saving some money for the pencils or for a commission from you :). I'm sure our chihuahua would look great in your style :aww:

Thank you so much :) I have no idea :XD: it just seems to be a good combination! The fur was a little tricky on this one, though. It doesn't help that I don't seem to have a good natural steely-grey blue.
Lol, well I can recommend either  haha! I can say the Derwent Drawing soft pencils are really nice, and are great for sketching too!

You're very welcome :) It does seem pretty difficult.

Great, thanks for the recommendation :D Some time later, I'll go to an art shop to try out different pencils. I read a good critique of this Derwents, so I'll pay a special attention to them :aww:

He looks absolutely fantastic! I'll bet your mum was thrilled.

I've enjoyed watching the progress of this one on facebook ~ you've done a brilliant job with his fur, and the details on the collar just finish it off beautifully. He looks like he was a lovely little character :)

That's brilliant regarding the commissions ~ I hope it continues!

So you gave this to your mum yesterday? :iconlovehug: I love this so much and I saw the ref photo plus read that it's the first time you'd drawn a family pet of yours. Well I love the look of Charlie, so that makes this drawing all the more wonderful! (I did see you tell someone he was a bit of an oddity, but one can't tell from this art-piece anyway  ) Glad your commissions are keeping you busy. No, I lie, I'm glad they're bringing you deserved income, that's what!! :D You're always very busy, commishes or not!

I did, yes... Well, not technically because you wrote that comment ten days ago haha. I am laaaate.
But yes! She did cry. And I'm glad you can't tell he was an oddball from my drawing lol!! I picked the most generic Yorkie photo of him I could find. Normally his expression was more vacant than this...
Yeah I always seem to be busy don't I? It's good I suppose!!
Btw... I was a little too late for Easter, buuuuut something will be winging its way to you just as soon as it reaches me first. So keep your eyes peeled... ;)

Wow, that's exciting news :iconhystericsplz: Seriously though, something Easterly on the way to me shortly,:love::iconlovesplz: Thank you so much!! :excited::squee: I apologise that I too have 'too late' organised you a belated Easter giftie. (not Hotel Chocolat though, not this time anyway :hmm: ) Hopefully you'll get it by the end of the first week of April. By then maybe you'll have eaten all your other Easter gifts from people, if you ordinarily receive those!

Oh shame, vacant Charlie, hehe! Well certainly that wasn't evident in that pic, especially with that dashing blue collar

Yes indeedy :la::la: I'm going to shut up now in case I give anything away, hahaha! And oh Mel you didn't have to... bless you  I will keep an eye out for that! I'm excited to get yours on its way to you... just got to wait... darn postal services...

I think I'll mostly be buying my own easter gifts :XD: I'm too old for chocolate eggs from my parents, lol. I might get one from them. I have already bought myself a rather fancy one. They are so expensive these days!!

Can't wait!! Meanwhile I do have a stack of chocolates to get through on this side :mwahaha: Though I wish I could've bought so many more of the Easter treats on offer in the stores, but that simply isn't possible, haha! :sniff: :XD: Yes wouldn't it be nice to teleport things, rather than use the postal service, ey?? :shakefish:

Well I hope you still got an Easter gift here and there :D :D I want to see that fancy one you got for yourself :iconsupereagerplz: But I realise now you bought it from where you've bought mine, so if you delay sharing the pic till mine eventually arrives over here, that's fine :D And if you don't want to take a photo, just show me an online pic, I suppose or tell me what it is and I can Google it. I've been making use of Google's new 'Nose' feature today, especially the 'scratch and sniff' option. Juuuuuuuuuuuust kidding. April Fool's crap by Google, lol: [link]

HA my "fancy" one is TINY!! But it ought to taste nice. I hope so at least. It cost 8 so it better do!!

I will show you a pic when you get yours ;) Of course I'm sure I will have eaten mine by then but I should be able to find an online pic!
Oh, lol. April Fools jokes are so lame :XD:

Thank you :) I actually don't seem to have the right kind of steely blues so I had to layer different blues with black, it was a pain. I'm finding I'm lacking the same colour for my current piece, too. I think it's time to go shopping for single pastels ;)
I'm glad you like it!

excellent work, I love the finishing ont he collar and the colours are nicely blended, I really enjoy your portrait work, but I think you really are undercutting yourself charging so little for these. There is pet portrait artists out there charging 8x more than you with much worse work.

Thank you very much, and yes I have heard this a few times ;) the 85 is in line with my other prices given the size. I suppose I'll put them all up again at some point, I'm getting a good few orders but I'm not exactly inundated, so for now I'll live with the lower price. If demand goes up I'll up the prices!

DA surely isn't the best place for getting commissions or selling things. I'm also trying hard to attract more customers, but I just don't like Facebook! I'm trying to deny its existence... :(
