I have never heard of anyone using a letter opener to etch and I wouldn't recommend it unless it's SUPER sharp. Plus it might be unwieldy to handle. Most use an x-acto knife or craft knife, I always used those tools you get with Scraperboards. You know, the blades with the red plastic handles. They do get blunt faster than a sharp knife blade, but they work pretty well. :)

I tried my grandma's letter opener and it failed .-.

But I'll get a craft knife if I can convince my mom that it's for safe usage haha
